Our head large animal vet, Michael, has successfully gained accreditation as a National Mastitis Advisory Committee (NMAC) member through a rigorous programme of training, study and examination.
NMAC-accredited vets focus on improving milk quality and managing mastitis through expert investigation, analysis, and tailored interventions.
Key aspects of an investigation from a NMAC veterinarian include:
Accredited Vets: These professionals are trained to investigate somatic cell counts (SCC) and advise on tailored mastitis control plans to help optimise production and udder health within a system.
Demerit Relief: Through the Fonterra Mastitis Support Programme, farms with any grading issues can get significant financial support when working with an accredited advisor.
Focus Areas: NMAC-trained advisors focus on reducing mastitis through environmental management, proper milking techniques, and improved diagnostics, rather than relying solely on antibiotics (which are still important).
CoroVets now offers a full Milk Quality Review and Udder Health Improvement Program, which includes the following:
On farm analysis of all aspects of the system relating to udder health, and milk quality, including:
Milking routine evaluation.
Plant inspection and optimisation during milking.
Environmental risk factors on farm.
Targeted milk culturing and mastitis pathogen identification.
Full herd test reviews, after every herd test.
Individualised dry cow planning, and culling guidelines
3 on-farm progress reviews, at key times of the season.
When done correctly, an effective program on any farm can result in significant animal health, production, and welfare improvements.
